Artistic residency / sound artist Laurynas Jukonis / Girnų giesmės (Lithuania)
In early October, one of the most prominent creators of the Lithuanian post-industrial scene, Laurynas Jukonis, widely known for his cult musical project “Girnų Giesmės”, will be in residence in Klaipėda. During the residency, the author will explore the urban environment, record sound fragments and form new creative material from them. “Girnų Giesmės” is an experimental post-industrial project, the music of which resembles the rumble of ancient stone millstones, extracted with modern means. Although the sound has changed over a long creative period, it has preserved the echo of an archaic, natural worldview – rough, but organic, like the breathing of the forces of nature. In Jukonis’ music, rhythmic textures merge with air saturated with metal dust, and the layering of sounds becomes like a voice for the past, which acquires a new form in a modern context. Over the decades, Laurynas Jukonis has participated in numerous experimental, ambient and industrial music projects: Svaixt, NuliS:S:S:S, Vėlu, Budrūs, Notanga, etc. Although the music born during the residency is still shrouded in mystery, we are already eagerly awaiting what new sound vision Laurynas will create here - in a port city where industry, nature and memory still live side by side. https://girnugiesmes.bandcamp.com/
